Hug It Out and... Linger

Hug It Out and... Linger

I heard the sweetest story the other day. It reminded me of one of my favorite songs, "Linger" by The Cranberries.

🎶 "Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it lingerrrrrrrrrr?" 🎶

Well, you don't have to... but, turns out, you should, and here's why.

Faced with her daughter's stress, a friend sidestepped the usual 'It'll be okay' routine and instead suggested a 30-second hug. Not just any hug; it's the lingering kind, the kind that says, "I've got you, and it's okay to feel whatever you're feeling."

Why 30 seconds?
Well, it's less about the exact amount of time and more about the linger. Think about it. The average hug probably only lasts 3 seconds (unless you're a new couple – they're basically Olympic gold medalists in hugging). The point of the lingering hug is to really connect. You have to focus your thoughts on the fact that someone is holding onto you longer than you'd typically expect. And whenever you can redirect your focus onto something that feels good – you're winning.

Now, Here's the Twist:
This got me thinking. Why reserve this magic for others? Don't get me wrong; please linger a little longer with others, but this Valentine's, we're turning the love inward. Yep, you guessed it—it's a 30-second self-hug challenge! Wrap those arms around yourself, throw in a couple of 'atta girl's, and let's make being our own valentine an art form.

We all need a moment of solace, especially from ourselves. A 30-second hug isn't just about physical touch; it's a declaration of self-compassion. It's a reminder that, in this journey of self-love, we are both the giver and receiver.

There's Actual Science Behind This:
Hugging, even if it's from yourself, releases oxytocin, known as the "love hormone." It's a natural stress-reliever that fosters feelings of trust and connection. So, when you hug yourself, you're not just engaging in a simple act; you're boosting your well-being on a deeper level.

Your Challenge This Week:
Give yourself the gift of a 30-second hug. Feel the warmth, the connection, and the self-love it brings. In a world that often demands so much from us, this act of kindness to ourselves is revolutionary.

Let's Hug It Out!

Enjoy Linger by The Cranberries

Sending you all the good vibes and self-love,
